Managing and disabling cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept statistics cookies. Google Analytics only loads if you click “Accept all”. If you choose “Continue without consent”, no analytics cookie is set and nothing is sent to Google. We use a small number of third-party services to run and improve the site. Each processes data under its own privacy policy.

Advertising
We do not show advertising on this site. If that changes, we will update this policy before any advertising cookie is set.
Hosting
The site runs on WordPress and is hosted by IONOS, whose servers keep logs including your IP address, browser type and the pages you accessed, used for security monitoring and performance.
Fonts
The fonts on this site are stored on our own server. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts or any other font service.
Social media
The site has no social media buttons, embedded posts, videos or maps. If we add any, we will update this policy first.
Affiliate links
One of our guides, on buying an abaya, carries two affiliate links to Amazon. We only place affiliate links in clothing and travel guides. We do not use affiliate links for insurance, visas, banking or tax, and we take no commission from any insurer. When you click an affiliate link, the third-party website may collect information about your visit. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you, and we label these links on the page where they appear.
6. Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal data to third parties.
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers. Trusted third parties who help us operate the website or serve our readers, provided they agree to keep your information confidential
- Legal requirements. Where the law, a regulation or a legal process requires it, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect our rights or someone’s safety
- Business transfers. In a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your data may transfer as part of that transaction. We will tell you if ownership of your data changes

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for, including any legal, accounting or reporting requirement.

- Rectification. Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- Erasure. Ask us to delete your data, subject to legal exceptions
- Restriction. Ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances

- Withdraw consent. Where we rely on consent, withdraw it at any time. This does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew
- Object. Object to processing for direct marketing, or where we rely on legitimate interests
To exercise any of these, email us using the address in section 12. We respond within 30 days, as the law requires.
If you live in the European Economic Area and believe we have not addressed your concern, you may complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in the United Arab Emirates, you may contact the UAE Data Office.
9. Children’s privacy
This site is not directed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Links to other websites
We link to external websites we do not operate, including insurance providers, government resources and other reference sites. We have no control over their content, privacy policies or practices.
